Wow. Very much wow. I had forgotten about this, and just... how can people say it's subtle? xD
-
Nice try, Captain! Not obvious at all, nope. Love the 'oops, there are people here!' moment. 'Eyesex later. :(' And Rand's little glare of jealousy there made me giggle. McCoy, naturally, is by this point immune to and unfazed by the sexual tension.

That's Rand, not Chapel. :-)

Someone checked someone out, I won't say who but I think you guys can figure it out.

EYESEX

Dude. Like. What. The camera cuts back forth between them gazing soulfully into each other's eyes, like, four times. You only do that when you're filming romance, people! I don't know if this is all loads of coincidence from trying to fill up 50 minutes of air time, or the entire crew was dicking with the audience, but JESUS.

God, my HEART. This is so sweet I'm getting diabetes.

Chapel looks like shes saying "get your hands off my man" at the end, and McCoy looks like he's embarrassed, like he's been watching something he wasn't supposed too...haha ;)

@marissolguerra And then there's my favourite Roddenberry quote of all time: "Yes, there's certainly some of that - certainly with love overtones. Deep love. The only difference being, the Greek ideal - we never suggested in the series - physical love between the two. But it's the - we certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that, if that were the particular style of the 23rd century."
Yes, he is talking about Kirk and Spock! Google it if you don't believe me :)

All the eyefucking!
Spirk is canon, baby!
You know, I've always wondered how much of this was on purpose and how much was just spontaneous. To be honest, I don't really see Roddembery saying "now you have eye sex and then you--". I also wonder if it was just how they understood their characters' relationship or if they didn't even THINK about it. I mean, sometimes Shatner overacts a bit, so I don't know. Either way, it's pretty obvious there's something slashy there, I just wonder what's the story behind it.

@marissolguerra actually, the actors themselves probably had a clue. For one, Nimoy portrayed a homosexual in a 1966 film, so we know he's open minded. On Memory Alpha it says that during the filming of the last episode, Shatner flubbed a line and reportedly blurted out instead, "Spock, it's always been you, you know it's always been you. Say you love me too." Not only that, but the writer of Amok Time and Shore Leave (!) was known for putting gay subtext in his work. Too many coincidences. :)
