  • Where is this Organ located? Where are you sudying?

  • @DesireeDeFete

The organ is in Atlanta, GA. I'm not a music student....finished my undergrad in history and am pursuing a Master's (though slowly) in sociology. Music is a serious hobby for me, nothing more. I was working a weekly gig at a church but I vacated that position in the Spring. I've been doing some freelancing since, very little.

  • I think you played well, but just a reminder when you are playing for a church service don't pause to pull out some stops in-between verses. You play well though, I enjoyed it, I can remember when I played at a Presbyterian Church in Carlisle, PA, I paused and they started singing so I had to catch up with them, it was quite the amusing event of the week, but the minister didn't agree! Good Job though, keep playing! :)

  • I'm quite fortunate to work with a congregation that follows the organist. They're trained well to know the dominant 7th and wait for the resolution. They anticipate the rubato, and generally follow me through the interludes. Also, a bit of eye contact between the choir director helps to assure that everyone knows when to start (she leads the choir and the congregation follows the choir).

  • When I play services, there is also a choir director leading hymns, with eye contact, we fortunately can time entrances. If I were accompanying though yes, you have a point. I would probably just set a general for the final stanza.

  • Is this based on the tune Nicaea by John Bacchus Dykes?

  • Yup

I've posted a similar clip, though years later at this name. Check it out !

  • This is really, really excellent! What kind of organ is this? The coupler rail and decorative moulding around the coupler tabs are reminiscent of Skinner...

  • Hi, are you sure that the African American Heritage Hymnal has all the interludes? The United Methodist Hymnal does not seem to have interludes to move to final stanza. Could you scan me the interlude for this Nicaea? Thanks.! tguodong@gmail.com

  • The music played in this video teared down my walls, makes me tremble, always!! Is divine, really.

  • I adore this music and you played it very very well. Please post more church hymns. I have cancer I need all the joy earthly pleasures can provide.

  • he didn't really stop to pull out sum pipes it was for dramatic effect
