Google is your best friend. Learn to use it: An Imprint goshawk or, better still, a tame-hacked Imprint goshawk is the closest we will ever get to that wild hawk. It has the advantage of flying at a heavier weight with little fear of humans, making the hawk stronger and more focused on its prey.

What i need to know from you...since u are an expert at this.. is how I can keep a red shouldered hawk and or red tailed hawk away from my property ?? We have 3 to 6 of them nesting near here - my Yoranian puppy was attacked by one and flew off when I came outside to investigate all the comotion !! We live on a full acre lot (IN THE CITY) mind you !! with lots of trees.... To be Continued !!

@hubbars5 a half of a mile is not that far. please dont go on a killing ramapge for no reason. lol.

@Aaronsworlddotcom its a pretty solid cycle. if you reduce the amount of predators one year and the next year the population of the prey skyrockets then you are just going to have more invading predators.
-
nice bird, i love falconry, in my experience you can take as many rabbits as you want, they still come back in force next season, i hunt on arable land and have to hit the rabbits really hard with hawks, shot & ferrets, by march there are hardly any left so i stop shooting them & ferreting them and they are abundent again by may/june.
nice vid, cheers for that

why

The rabbits here eat the farmers alfalfa down to the ground 20 feet around each pivot. With no predators (such as when the canine parvovirus hit the coyotes) they get so overpopulated; they get tapeworms, cysts, botflies, etc.. in many rabbits the worms weigh 2lbs or more on a 5-6lb rabbit. I have literally seen bot flies crawl out of the tear ducts in a rabbit's eye. They NEED predators to survive. It's gross when they are removed. Besides that it is my hawk so that would be so very uncool. :)

No shit they need predators but where I live they are so far from being overpopulated it's not funny, and that is because there are too many damn hawks, owls, coyotes, fox, and cats that need to be shot, so I can run my beagles and start pups without having to walk half a mile to jump a rabbit.

Yea I hear you. But from my experience they are at a normal healthy level. The thing about shooting predators is that they reproduce so fast that next year you will have more young predators for a given area than if you would have just left the adults remain. The young animals are more tolerant about smaller territories and overcrowding. Almost all predators and (prey) have a high mortality rate of young. If the habitat had more food available then you would see more rabbits.

You can only temporarily change this for a small location. But every year your work will be harder and harder. Without them it gets disgusting quick. I have personally seen this. I understand where you are coming from though. I have an interest in making more rabbits available to hunting for me. Just saying the habitat is very important. And the way the biology of the predators is... sort of shoots yourself in the foot.
