I don't know about needing a jack. I put these on my VW Golf... not much wheel clearance and I have no problems. The trick is to make sure that the chains are centered on top. If the chain is too far to the front or back of the car you can't get tensioner to feed properly.

Fitting these chains should only be attempted before it snows and with the aid of a jack so that you can get the wheels off the ground.

i've got the same car and rims. Acc. to VW snowchains are not possible on the rims. You have had any problems regarding mc phersonstrut/wheelarches?
