I bought a new guitar last week and was eager to try it out! It's a 2004 Peter Oberg (www.obergguitars.com) & its full textured with big round basses. The prelude is also only a week old for me!

The Prelude is by baroque composer Johann Kühnau (arranged by Richard Yates) & you'll be hard pressed to find any guitar recordings of it around or any of Kühnau's works for guitar. ...at least from what my investigations bear. (thank you Mr. Yates! www.yatesguitar.com)

The arrangement is in drop D tuning and you'll notice a capo at the second fret. I dropped all six strings a whole step so with the capo, it's still in Dmajor. Reason; fitted with high tension Savarez and massive high action, the left hand demands became fatiguing so I opted for a middle ground between lesser string resistance (w/o having to change 'em) and an easier left hand.

Surprisingly, even with the capo, the full-body resonance of the guitar was still very present! This guitar rocks!

Anyhow, blah blah blah......Hope you enjoy it!

UPDATE: I redid the audio and it's clearer with a fuller spacial presence. Here it is...

  • I uploaded a version of this on my steel string, then i saw this and now i'm thinking i shouldn't of bothered! I thought this was excellent! i don't understand why you only got 3 stars but its 5 from me!

  • Hey, thanks! That's a very nice thing to say. Yeah, I don't understand the cheap ratings either.

You have some great stuff posted! Keep up the good work!-I like it! Just saw Cool Hand Luke too....good movie.

  • I read you comments. I think the problem of your left hand hurting is more from your technique than the string tension (of course tension helps - but long term its not the best solution). You want relax your left hand- easier said - feel the fingering coming from the weight of your arm rather than your fingers and thumb, the thumb is just a guide, you should get most of the force from the arm. Watch John Williams vids and Denis Azabagic for a good example of the technique I'm describing...

  • Thanks DeMari, those are good suggestions.

The real problem is the massively high action coupled with tight tension. When I received this guitar, the action was slightly above 5mm @ the 12th! I have 6 other concerts guitars that give me absolutely no problem....ever.

    Nonetheless, thats sound advice!
