This is video of a Tornado, or something close to a tornado, that hit our house outside Denver on 7/20 Evening. The storm hit at about 10:15 and lasted for about ten minutes.

I went outside to roll up the windows on my car around 9:45, seeing the storm to the north. It produced a lot of lightening, but I didn't think much of it. Around 10:00, we heard a loud clap of thunder, so we went in to turn off the computers. I looked out the window to see the rain moving almost sideways!

My mom and I woke up my dad, about the time my sister called, saying she though it looked like a tornado. I looked out again to see the rain and cloud almost swirling! I decided the best thing to do was run into the shower in the basement and pray!

After the storm, we looked outside. We lost a couple of windows (on the house and our truck) and our deck roof is completely destroyed, as you can see in the pictures. Our cars all have dings and the plastic light covers are broken. It was also really foggy. The ground was covered in hail, almost like snow. The largest appeared to be golf ball sized.

Here are my pictures. I'm not a good night photographer, but I hope it gives you an idea of the damage.

I'll take some more in the morning when I can see.

  • What exactly is a Derecho. I look up the definition, but it confused me more than anything. Would appreciate insight.

  • That was a tornado? Holy shit. I didnt even know. Wow, pretty weak then.

  • @commenter12100 I think they called it a micro-burst officially. I believe they said a tornado touched down near Englewood. So it was likely forming a tornado around my house. But it sure sounded like one!

  • the tornado was right above my house. i live at about kipling and garrison

  • That's about where I live. The clouds sure were swirling!

  • That was crazy! We got stuck on 6th Ave. Comin back from Coors Field. Couldnt see anything, and the Hail was so loud and blowing in completely sideways! Love the music, really sets the mood. lol. Good luck w/ your patio roof!

  • Thanks, we needed to finish our deck anyway. Hopefully, the insurance will cover some of it.

  • my house is ther

  • It was more of a Derecho than a Mircoburst.

  • I just got a shit ton of hail, lol.

  • @Marko295 Yeah, I think you're right I remember this night. It came over us, rained and hailed really hard on my house for like 10 minutes.

  • i live on garrison and Mississippi, and it was raining then stopped, then started hailing really hard, my mom called me down as she was clearing out the closet where the entrance to the basement is, we went down there while the tv was all the way up so we could hear the news, they said it was right above us, it hailed for a few minutes then got really bad, after about 10 minutes in the basement everyone in the townhome community came out and was looking at the damage, and checking on people

  • @Fitfirefighter yeah shit, littleton was pretty trashed, it looked like it had snowed and there were trees in the road where i lived off bowles and platte canyon

  • dude, i was riding in my car when this storm hit, the lighting was striking nonstop. when i got home, my dad was watching tv, then soon, there was a tornado warning in arvada where i live. it was just about the scariest things that ive been through. i hope there wont be a storm like that again.
