Zeppelin was absolutely underground. They had next to no media exposure, refused to release singles or go on tv, and were always given terrible reviews by big name mags like the rag that is Rolling Stone. Page himself has called Zeppelin an underground band. They relied almost solely on word of mouth. Of course they also happened to be the biggest underground band EVER.
