  • What a great ending to an entertaining movie.

  • Was the plot of this film basically the same as the one Neil Diamond did?

  • In the film, Jolson's character has to postpone, by a day, his show's opening because of the Jewish "Day of Atonement" and his father's death; in real life, the premier of "The Jazz Singer" was postponed a day because one of the Warner Brothers had just died.

  • A great sequence from a truly great film; thank you.

  • beautiful song

  • @tallochIV thanks for the comment. It's good to learn a little more about this hugely talented and influential artist.

  • @susans1fan Yes. And, when one thinks about Jolies' background, it's even more impressive. He was a Jew, born in Russia and raised in the American south. Imagine the effort that assimilating into such a radically different culture must have required, afull century ago. Yet he managed it with such apparently effortless, open hearted gusto. You were one of Gods' gifts, Asa. America is richer for having known you.

  • An essential scene in the history of movies. However, Jolson's talents were best suited to large vaudeville and Broadway theaters and not to the intimacy of film.

  • So interesting to hear Jolson singing without any theatrics. A song to his God... straight from the heart. I am not Jewish but I found it very moving.
