This is a video of my homebrew version of Time Pilot for the Texas Instruments TI-99/4A.
It was recorded using the classic99 emulator running in a windows 2000 virtual-pc image on a windows vista desktop PC. Unfortunatly I wasn't able to record sound.

This is an early BETA and there is not much happening, did get to get the bullet firing system working. The bullets are not real sprites, they are implementes as "software sprites".
Software sprites are normal tiles manipulated and moved in such way so that they look like sprites.

The green and white overlay blocks are still visible for debugging, normally they are black.

  • Thanks. Well, eventually I'd like to release Time Pilot on a cartridge for playing on the real TI-99/4A Home Computer. Ofcourse a ROM version for emulators exists, because I do the development using an emulator. Most likely I will then also release the ROM version. The same way as I did for Pitfall.

Dunno when that will be though, as this is all done in TMS9900 assembly language. It's a big project (which I haven't touched in a while now).

  • Plans are to implement this game as a cartridge.

Still a very long way to go though.

The challenge is to get a cartridge PCB with some extra RAM onboard (min 1K, most likely 4K would be enough)

  • Looks very promising so far... I suppose the enemies are next?

  • Well I've just finished a tool I can use to easily generate all required sprite graphics. This will save me a lot of time I can use for working on the actual game. Now concentraing on bringing parachutes in.

  • @gjc82071 Sorry/never-mind (about if it's an emulator). I see it's classic99.

  • AMAZING!!!! You've done a BEAUTIFUL, top notch job! (so far, of course). I swear, it looks practically identical to the arcade version! An excellent "port". I'd love to see it when "finished"/done, speaking of which.....

Q: If you do ever finish/or already have done so......what's to become of the final product? Will it be made available to the general public? Will it be sold, free, for emulators only, for REAL TI99's only, etc? I'd love to get my hands on a copy/version for emulators.

  • Is this an emulator? If so, which 1? Classic 99 or Win994a?

  • Same here... I will buy a copy also :)

  • Hey, very impressive. Let me know when its out. =) Just post it to the OLUG. I'll take a copy on cart along with the Pitfall!

  • VERY nice and one of my all time favorite games! I never thought this game on the

TI was possible! Keep up the great work! I'll buy a copy for sure when its done! :)
