Smash Up Derby

There's always some toy you wanted as a kid but never got. For my brother, it was a Smash Up Derby. My brother just turned 40, and as a birthday present, my sister found the long-coveted Smash Up Derby on eBay. Very cool!

My brother and I finally got to race the cars across the kitchen floor and watch them smash. It is STILL fun.

My sister began by searching for an "Evel Knievel Smash Up Derby," but she couldn't find it anywhere. She knows a guy who works as a comic book store, so she asked his advice. He was able to correct the name without any hesitation: "There is no Evel Knievel Smash Up Derby." For some reason, it's one of the coolest parts of the story that the comic book store guy had such an immediate, authoritative knowledge of the toys of the early 1970's.
