I was 17 when i first heard this,in a job i hated and wondering where my life was going. This song gave me hope. Now 26 years later i run my own buisness, got a good life and still believe in the power of music. Cheers Bill, you're a diamond.

Gosh, this song is so relevant. I graduated summa cum laude (US system), and I have most of a graduate degree finish. I cannot find work. Qualifications are becoming pieces of paper.

All you kids can learn a thing or two from Mr. Bragg.

So Lars Friedreksen and The Bastards covered Billy Bragg rearranging his own song? Nice!

YOU SOUND LIKE YOU'RE FROM LONDON

@shotinthehead2bedead Grew up on the streets! lmao! If you believe rockstars bios you'll believe anything-you'll be telling me Seasick Steve is really a train bunking hobo next. Lars Frederickson is a nice middleclass trustafarian...hanging round a couple of squats is not growing up rough on the streets...them squats tend to be full of trustafarians pretending to be rough and poor just like Mr Frederickson

@crwbano it's not. lars fredriksen is a punk, nevertheless. the fact that he covered this song has made it all the more famous, and it's not like he stole it. lars grew up on the streets and survived because of music.

@JCR101393 Have to disagree there. Lars removes probably the most important line in the song "The system has failed you, dont fail yourself" and replaced it with some inane self referential, egotistical line about going to California that has meaning to no one but himself and changing the meaning of the entire song. Punk rock he aint...unless Ive missed something and its about the clothes and how you wear your hair...
no offense, but i like lars fredriksons version better

That's a good version. Lars Fredrickson and the Bastards are a good band.
