  • El grillo è buon cantore

    che tiene longo verso.

    Dale beve grillo canta.

Ma non fa come gli altri uccelli,

come li han cantato un poco

van` de fatto in altro loco,

sempre el grillo sta pur saldo

Quando la maggior è [l`] caldo

    alhor canta sol per amore.

  • The cricket is a good singer

and he sings for a long time

Give him a drink so he can go on singing

But he doesn`t do what the other birds do

    Who after singing a little

    Just go elsewhere.

    The cricket is always steadfast

    When it is hottest,

then he sings just for love

  • DR DOWNEY IS THE BEST TEACHER LISTEN TO THIS AND SING IT ALL THE TIME IN HIS CLASS MWAHAHAHAHA

  • @racerboyGTR According to Keith Anderson, an expert of Renaissance music, "'El Grillo' (The Cricket), a 'frottola', puns on the name of the singer Carlo Grillo, employed by Galeazzo Maria Sforza, whose musical establishment of forty singers included some score of French or Flemish musicians."

Even if it's not based on sheer satire, this piece of work could perhaps be seen as a musical piece of roguery?

  • @antedyo Excelent traduction. I´m going to sing this with my choir, and I didn´t know exactly the meaning of this song, so thank you very much

  • This song is kindda funny to me haha but i like it!

  • Is it true that this song is a satire??

  • FOR DR. DOWNEY.. You are the Best!

  • dalle dalle beve beve grillo grillo canta EL GRILLO...

  • @scelauro Di dove sei?

  • @scelauro we're so proud of YOU

  • this is sung in Italian. I speak fluent Italian. And am also performing this song.

  • performing this song in 3 days

  • Alright then.

  • @MoaiMaea Actually it's not italian... it's a romance language called provenzal or Lenga d'òc

  • Yep, that’s what I meant apart from the obvious ;> I figure you won’t be able to pronounce it properly when this was the first time you sung in Italian.

  • @MoaiMaea Haha, well, not only. :D It's more the way they use their voices and pronounce it so well.

  • Because it is sung in Italian :p ?

  • I remember this. W sang this in our school's chamber choir, only did we sing it much, much faster. Most interpretations here on YouTube sound like a Mass or whatever, but not like a song about a "grillo". This performance has at least some medieval italian flair to it.

  • i listened to this song 6 times it is the best

  • Hi mrs Silverio

  • Also, great song by the way!

  • @midikalakatos Oh, really? Thanks for telling me, I didn't think it sounded right :)

  • @tedfreak95 well, i'm italian and your teacher is wrong. Antedyo's translation is good
