Even if it's not based on sheer satire, this piece of work could perhaps be seen as a musical piece of roguery?

I remember this. W sang this in our school's chamber choir, only did we sing it much, much faster. Most interpretations here on YouTube sound like a Mass or whatever, but not like a song about a "grillo". This performance has at least some medieval italian flair to it.
