OAKLAND (KRON) A spokesperson for AC Transit tells KRON 4 their bus driver did exactly what she was supposed to do when a fight broke out on a bus in Oakland Monday afternoon.

The fight between two passengers took place on the N-bus line on 20th Street between Webster and Franklin.

Spokesperson Clarence Johnson says each bus is equipped with a button that bus drivers can press to trigger a silent alarm for help.

When the fight broke out Monday, Johnson says the driver took action, Our operator acted as she was trained. When something goes wrong, our operators are trained to immediately sound the alarm and phone central dispatch which summons help. The help is in the form of Alameda County Sheriffs deputies who provide security for our buses. Sheriffs arrived at the scene they took both combatants away. My understanding is both were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Johnson stresses that AC Transit is a safe form of transportation, Typically we carry about 236,000 people a day to and from their destinations safely without incident. So its a rare occurrence. And its nothing about this particular line that would make these kinds of things more prone to happen.
