Cintas' highest ranking woman can add yet another achievement to her list of accolades. Karen Carnahan, President and COO of Cintas' Document Management division was named a YWCA Career Woman of Achievement Award. The award was established in 1980 to increase community awareness and appreciation of women in the workforce.
Karen, who started at Cintas in 1979 as an entry-level assistant, now oversees 1,800 partners in the company's document management division. Karen was also the company's first female treasurer and vice president. She credits much of her success to many Cintas executives, including Cintas founder and chairman, Dick Farmer. "He gave me exposure to different opportunities through acquisitions, through opportunities in the finance and treasury sides of the business. As I got exposure I truly became a student of business and he really set the stage for giving me tremendous opportunities at Cintas.
Karen believes that good leadership begins at the ground level. She reaches out to her employees to make sure they have a say in the vision for the future. Karen encourages women that "if you want it to happen, it will happen."
