About the USS Preble,...

" USS Preble (DDG-88) is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer in the United States Navy.

USS Preble (DDG-88) was commissioned 9 November 2002 at the Commonwealth Pier/World Trade Center in Boston, Massachusetts. At her commissioning ceremony USS Preble was docked bow to bow with USS Constitution, the command of her namesake, Commodore Edward Preble. The ceremony included a symbolic welcoming aboard of the spirit of Commodore Preble signaled by the ringing of chimes. Among the speakers at the commissioning of Preble were U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy, U.S. Representative Stephen Lynch, then Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Vernon E. Clark USN (Ret.) and journalist and sailor Walter Cronkite. "

On another note; towards the end of this video you may hear the background conversation taking place. The gentleman you hear in the background is speaking about his having seen (and taken a picture of) the Nautilus Submarine (the worlds first nuclear powered submarine) as she pulled out of San Diego bay (1979) many years ago, on her final voyage (en route to a museum in Groton Connecticut). Even though that conversation had nothing directly to do with the Navy ship I was filming at this moment, I had filmed a Navy sub a few minutes earlier this same day.

I left that audio in the film to show the many kind and wonderful people I meet when ever out filming these ships. They are the greatest generation: our veterans and their families.
Personally, it is during these moments, they often introduce themselves during filming, and share the best stories you could ever hear. Thank you, and may God bless each and every one of you - you know who you are. :0)

NEWS UPDATE APRIL 2011...

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Japanese Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa thanked sailors and Marines aboard the San Diego-based aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan for their help after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, the Navy reported Monday.

The Reagan and other ships based in San Diego, the cruiser USS Chancellorsville and destroyer USS PREBLE, were on their way to deployment when ordered to the waters off Japan to aid in recovery efforts.

Other U.S. ships and military units also joined Operation Tomodachi, which means "friendship" in Japanese.

"To all U.S. military members, on behalf of the people of Japan, I sincerely express my deep appreciation for the tremendous support provided by the U.S. military, the U.S. government and the American people at a time of unprecedented crisis in Japan," Kitazawa said in remarks made on the carrier's hangar deck.
