the Confederacy was literally founded on racism. their constitution makes it incredibly clear that 'the negro' was considered much less than 'the white man'. dixie is a catchy tune but the imagery and the aesthetic are unambiguously racist.

@phalsebob During the Civil Rights movement, some of those who were anti-black took up the Confederate flag (and the symbolism that went with it, including 'Dixie') as their symbols. Many saw this and it was forever stained with that memory. For me, and most of the rest of my comrades, it's just a beautiful song that represents our states and our nation. Remember that.

@phalsebob I personally disagree. It is the anthem of a nation. It may be easy to misunderstand to outsiders, but in the South there is still a significant culture (no, not rednecks) of anti-federalism, and independence. Many people, myself included, feel more loyalty to their individual states than to the Feds. 'Dixie' itself, while ironically written by a Northerner, still remains popular to this day. Now, the reason many think Dixie is racist is because they have been taught to believe this;
