I just love this 1929 N.Y. recording by this all star band. Along with Red are J.C. Higginbotham tbn, Albert Nicholas clt, Charlie Holmes alto, Teddy Hill ten, Luis Russell pno and chimes, Will Johnson g, the irrepressible Pops Foster bass and Paul Barbarin - phew what a line up. I was privelidged to see Henry Allen at the Manchester Sports Guild in 1964 when I was just 16 years of age, I managed to sneak in under age. What an impression he left on me, the man had a personality to match his brilliance on the trumpet.
