These commercials aired on NBC on September 20th, 1981

1. Inglenook
2. KNBC News Promo
3. Promo for "Get High On Yourself" ("CHiPs" will not be seen tonight...)
4. McDonald's (I hope you're prepared for some of the cheesiest commercials ever made)
5. McDonald's: Bein' Yourself (It's kind of amazing how much style, music and culture changed just between 1980-1985)
6. McDonald's: Can't Stop
7. Promo for "Coach Of The Year" (He can't walk...but he's a tough coach with lots of heart)
8. Promo for "Love Letter To Jack Benny"
9. McDonald's: Car Wash
10. Promo for "Project Peacock: How To Eat Like A Child" (With Dick Van Dyke and Corey Feldman) and "Oh, God!" (I'm NEVER surprised when George Burns appears suddenly in my bathroom)
11. Promo for "Real People"
12. McDonald's: Best Friends
13. Promo for "Every Stray Dog And Kid" and "And Baby Makes Six" (Sounds like an evening's worth of ridiculously titled television)

15. McDonald's

  • I am shocked and amazed at how many McDonald's commercials there are. It's like they made a new one each week or something.

  • @MattTheSaiyan This special was sponsored by McDonald's.

  • @80sCommercialVault I meant that there seem to be an unusally large number made in the 1980s in general. Not that I'm complaining or anything. McDonald's had great ads back then.

  • @MattTheSaiyan Well, they were probably the largest television advertiser during the 80's and 90's. It's not surprising that they had to make a lot of ads to fill all the ad space they bought. Also, most of the ads on my channel are sourced from programming geared toward children and young adults, McDonald's target advertising audience.

  • Strikes me as odd that McDonalds is using the "When you Wish Upon a Star" melody for their commercials here.

Also, it's kind of weird to think about it, but people living in the 80s felt as morose about their country as we feel today. In fact, there's a documentary on youtube called "The Killing of America" that was produced in the early 80s, showing how violent the country got from the sixties on. It's a weird parallel with the bright, sunny world shown in these ads.

  • @LenaAndreia The melody is similar for sure, but it's not the exact melody of "When You Wish Upon A Star".

  • YAY! I look forward to your uploads. I like to come home, after a hard work day, and watch your retro commercials. It reminds me of times when things were easier and I was carefree and young... now I'm old, fat and have to pay taxes.

  • The best thing about Chrissy is: she's imaginary.

  • Wow... I remeber watching these shows as a kid! (Of course, I was very young at the time!) That was one of the coolest things about the early 80's... there was a general feeling that the country (& the world) was heading into a Golden-Age of some kind. Thing didn't quite work out that way... but it was a nice thought!

  • What's striking me is that the music in the commercials is better than some of the shit being played on the radio nowadays. Why wasn't I a kid in the 80s?

  • if the world doesn't end in december of this year

give it another 15-20 years and the world will be like that bruce willis movie Surrogates

    nobody will leave their home

computers and the internet have made life great, but also depressing and miserable at the same time

look at how care free life was in the 80s and 90s without all this in your face technology

  • But I only get high when CHiPs is on. It's the only way I can tolerate Erik Estrada's acting.

  • It's a baby Corey Feldman @4:51!

  • @Jukesette damn bro, i know this was written a year ago and you probably dont come on youtube, but that was the saddest comment ever! you are somebody man, ill maintain in this world for u and all the other have-nots (my childhood friends who are in your predicament).im 31, in grad school at a 1st tier univ, have no responsibilities, besides getting good grades, and i feel like a kid still which is why im here drifting back in time!
