Makabebe Town Fiesta commences on August 31 with a colorful and extravagant parade of its students, teachers, elders, officials, clergy, laymen and most especially its youth. It has been like this since the Augustinian Friars brought the image of St. Nicholas, its patron saint together with the Virgin Mary, to the coastal town. It wraps up on the 10th of September with a day of planned/unplanned reunions, paid sung masses, mundane shows, gambling, drinking and gluttony.

Some miracles or legends are attributed to St. Nicholas and it seems the clergy allows or even encourages these dubious or amazing stories to make the worshippers even more faithful to the mother church or to the padres themselves. And that equals enormous indulgencias plenarias.

Fiestas, however one sees them, unite families and the community, perhaps even enemies, at least for the duration of the 10-day novena dedicated to the patron saint.

Batalya , the Pampango-Hispanic battle hymn, is a dyed in-the-wool finale for every fiesta procession/parade/celebration in Makabebe and most Southern Kapampangan towns. I took the liberty to have it as the theme music together the first-ever town hymn written for Makabebe, fortunately, a song I wrote myself.
