Dj jazzy jeff & the solo bass. Boyyeeee.

Ok - I'm playing with synths, loops & laptops for crafting a rig to do live solo bass/electronic music. These are my very primitive first steps.

  • Your new experiments are so incredibly different from the stuff on outre. did you get bored of making your old style of solo bass? judging from the other blog it looks like it can get a bit boring looking through all of the possible songs...

  • not bored. not at all. I have lots of solo bass music still in me. I will record more this year. I'm interested in writing, playing & exploring several kinds of music. Most of it will be radically different from my solo work. I think I'll have to create alter-egos for everything so peeps don't get too confused!

  • I have a GT6B myself, which I purchased while going through a strong NIN/MindlessSelfIndulgence kick, haha. So I'm curious as to how long have you owned yours before it started tweaking itself? I didn't even know they had USB ports on new multi-FX pedal's. That's brilliant. I'm still really new to recording programs myself, having only recently figured out audacity/hydrogen so for the most part the vast majority of the things you discuss in this video went right over my head.

  • it was one of the first things I bought in 2004. I got it used on ebay for $250. best deal ever. It's been solid. I've flown with it many many times. I think if I did a factory re-set it might be ok. but i still need get all my custom settings off it first.

  • Any chance of seeing you and Andy Mckee playing together? :) You seem to be quite good friends (judging from your communication on myspace).

    Love your music man.

  • Andy Rules. we played a few shows together last year. I played on his latest solo CD - and I'm trying to get him to create an alter-ego so he can play on my next Ruiner Severhead project. I want to have him play "drifting" thru the Scrotum Smasher distortion. ;)

But nothing else in the works right now.

  • hey i hear a little drum and bass in this

  • I'm also excited to hear you discuss the RS project in regards to performing it live. I'd love to check that show out.

  • I love what you can do with Guitar Rig too, and have recorded a few things using that. You're right about latency, it's not quite satisfying to use live, so for now I'm just using it as a "post-production" tool.

Look forward to hearing more music from you...

  • Hi Rob - I didn't have the 10B to compare. But compared to the 6B the amp models are diff. The simple compressor on GT is different (not as bass friendly)but the advanced one works well. The whas are different. Also look into software. I'm totally digging GuitarRig - it's sooooo tweakable. way more than any pedal. of course latency is an issue too.
