An entry for the BUSHMAN WORLD UKULELE VIDEO CONTEST 2008.

I have recorded this improvisation with two ukulele parts. I play it three times through. In the first chorus I stick pretty much to the tune, but , for the remainder of the piece, I improvise around the chord sequence. I am using my Kanilea tenor for both parts.

This wonderful jazz standard was written in 1934 by Edgar Sampson. The title refers to the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, New York City. This dance hall was in use between 1926 and 1958.

This tune has been recorded many times by such great names as Louis Armstrong, Chick Webb and Ella Fitzgerald. But the most famous version was probably that recorded by Benny Goodman.

Thanks for listening.
