Eldia Barbee Unknown Hornpipe (2 -w/gtr & solo) 1977

PLEASE READ: Both Eldia's father & mother played fiddle. He learned this tune from his father, Frank. Neither Charles Wolfe or Alan Jabbour knew this tune. If anyone out ther has any idea what the name of this is, let me know. On the first track, I played guitar, just guessing at chords - the tune pre-dates the guitar being used in around here. Eldia and his brothers formed a string band in the '20s - Jim played fiddle, Oscar on banjo, and Eldia- being the youngest - on gtr. Sister Elzia ( in Eldia's opinion) was the best fiddler of the bunch. Roy Acuff asked her to join his band in the 30s but she refused. Strangley, there is a detailed geneology of the Barbee family on the 'Net. They arrived in the USA in 1799. Google "Pine Breeze Recordings" for more info on the 2006 reissue of the 8 original LPs of field recordings

Probably 1977 or 78. I recorded a couple of versions - the one where I play guitar, and the one on the Pine Breeze 006 LP that just has Eldia doing solo. Eldia said he learned it from his father. His mother also played fiddle (and so did oldest brother Jim, and sister Elzia - who Roy Acuff tried to get to join his band - Elzia was the best fiddler of the family, according to both Eldia and Oscar.) Elzia children are the Bice Family which I have on my site.
