Straightforward, no nonsense, that's Dakota.

A very fine interpretation of this standard. Dakota deserved much greater recognition of her artistry. Excellent soulful sax.

Dakota went to the same High School in Pittsburgh,PA as Billy Strayhorn, who wrote Take the A Train, and Errol Garner. She was a friend of my older sister & brother in law so when I was a teen in the 60's in NYC, we'd listen to jazz albums and she'd sing along and tell stories of her life. A beautiful woman and spirit.

@windjammerish No. Sadly, she passed April 10, 2007.

Is Dakota Staton still living?

Wow... That is SO GOOD!
Great vocals, and fantastic sax...

I miss you so much baby. You are definitely one of the greatest we ever had. You will always be a true and dear friend who was and is close to my heart. May the Creator Most High Grant you access to His Paradise where you will sing forever with the other wonderful songbirds who proceeded you. Love forever.

I'm familiar with Aretha Franklin's version of this song, but Dakota Station's smokey rendition is fantastic! Thanks for posting and turning me on this. I am going to search out from this recording artist.
