@horshooer I don't think he was pushing her.... He took the whip out after the turn to get distance after he past the fillies, but if you look, once he turns his head and sees where he is, he stands up and eases on her, it is very clear he is not pressing her... and she STILL sets a new stakes record.

Ruffian was never asked to run in the 1975 MG, and she was ridden under pretty much a hand gallop from the 1/4 pole. As for Z, it's tough for a closer to set any records.

However, saying that the Gazelle field was "stellar" and was run 2 months later doesn't exactly make you look like an expert.

this race shouldn't even count. Lousy competition burn themselves out in a speed duel. Of course she wins by 19. Horses come within a second of the track record all the time. Had she come within a fifth of a second would've been something to brag about.
