The car's not a Ferrari nor even Italian, it's a Porsche, and the blonde - well I should not need to tell you who the blonde is.

Obviously I faked the picture but that's in keeping with the spirit of the poem.

All I can say is that being envied isn't as much fun as it seems to be. You're under the delusion that people are thinking one thing about you when most of them are thinking something quite different such as, "Look at that Flash Git - I'd like to take him down a peg or two. "

There's a concept in marketing called "Mental Ownership". Before buying anything, the punter considers how his life will be different when he owns it. Before he buys a sports car he imagines masterfully driving round sweeping bends with a blonde by his side, who is slightly scared yet respectful of his competence, before he pulls off the road at a secluded spot and lays her down, excited, breathless and trembling on the soft grass.

Perhaps I oversold the idea, but you get it. A sale begins with Mental Ownership. I think it was one of the Revlon brothers who said, "We manufacture cosmetics but we sell hope".

A company manufacturing earth-moving machinery found that sales improved when they included pictures taken from the driving seat. The customer has to visualise how much better life will be with a clean toilet or fewer zits - or whatever you're trying to sell him.

  • You have an epic reading voice :-)

  • @SpokenVerse Haha, didn't recognise the picture.

  • @BkkJohn

your the type of little prick Bukowski would call a little prick, you sound like a pencil pushing cubicle rat, with your mind all caught up in the wrong places; where we see a meadow to have a picninc on, you look for the guy to pay to have the privilege, and when you dont find him, you wonder how much the property costs...

  • Sounds like a vision of debaucherous romantic fantasy to me. Something tells me he wouldn't write about this if it actually happened.

  • Good reading, really good. Thanks for the upload and I love your description of the piece.

    Cheers!
