From 09 February 1958, Phil Silvers was the mystery guest. Most of the time, he was chatting with the panelists.

  • Phil Silvers, "inimitable" indeed! Such an wonderfully intelligent, natural quick wit. It's hard not to love him!

  • GLAD to see ya!

  • @soulierinvestments Could we have a translation of the gesture? (2 minutes?)

  • Is it me or does Dorothy Killgallen's mask looks a training bra?

  • He is hilarious. Never got into Sgt Bilko but he was great in Summer Stock (of course starring Gene Kelly and Judy Garland) as Herb.

    Thank you for posting!

  • 3:15 that is as well

  • 1:11 3:15 that is

  • Thanx to crepehanger47, YouTube's great WML reference, for posting this mystery guest sequence. The three Phil Silvers WML clips posted on YouTube are all sensationally funny and all are worth reviewing. This one from 1958 I find especially interesting.

  • P.S. When Lucille Ball visited as a mystery guest in January 1961, she asked the same question of George whoever and make the same gesture, which is live TV jargon.

  • I sometimes show a piece of this clip to my college students to illustrate jargon of the trade. That piece is at 5:17 , and it is a gesture that can be sometimes taken as obscene in certain places -- hence why Heller took a quick shot to Dorothy just in case. That shot of George whoever is one of maybe three stage shots in the whole history of WML.
