Qatar unveils museum of Islamic art - 22 Nov 08

The world's largest collection of Islamic art has gone on display in the Gulf state of Qatar.

The $300 million Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, the capital of Qatar, was unveiled on Saturday before Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar, and 1,000 dignitaries from around the world.

Al Jazeera's Dorsa Jabbari reports on the spectacular launch.

Just saw the wonderful documentary film "Learning From The Light" about I.M. Pei (the architect of this building) and the building of this museum and its history. Fabulous Beautiful building, beautiful art and amazing story.

Huge investment but it pays off: a museum with some rare display brings people in from all over the world and enriches the country it is in, employs specialized staff, teaches students and inspires future works of art. I can't see myself criticizing the initiative except to say it should have been done earlier. If it's islamic, muslim or arabic makes no difference to me.

taj mahal in india for example is falsly considered as islamic art...so u wanna say its arabic too..NO..islamic art and arabic art if really exists are totally different...
