@leananshae That's because it WAS real. As Randy later told the story, the rattlesnake was real, but it had had its fangs removed. They had to do many re-takes because he kept instinctively moving his leg away from the bite. The director finally said, "Damn it, Randy, the snake is going to get tired out! Just let the thing BITE you so we can get the shot!"

if you look real close the leg that was bitten it has alot of padding under his pants leg.

TWO GREAT THINGS ABOUT THIS SHOW: 1) The realism. The way things unfold seems so natural and realistic in all the details. 2) They may joke around a lot but when there's a crisis they all get serious and work together.

@tylerstattoo Yeah me too:} loved this show along with One Adam 12
Thanks for posting this. I haven't seen it since it's origianl air date back in the 70's. This is the episode I remember most. The snake bite scene has stuck with me all these years.

@tylerstattoo Very welcome, pretty dramatic scene isn't it? :)

Things he did right: Remaining calm and trying to keep the limb immobile and below the heart.
Thing he did wrong: Trying to open the wound with a knife. This does nothing to drain the venom and instead makes the victim vulnerable to infection.

@AtarahDerek Yes i must admit i wondered why he was digging at it with a knife! The director probably just asked him to be 'doing something frantically' while waiting for the action to move along.

@AtarahDerek Back then it was still common practice to "cut and suck" a snakebite. You could buy a snakebite kit containing a razor blade and suction device at about any store. A search for snakebite kit should turn up a photo of one. Now we know how useless and dangerous it is to cut the bite.
