La celebre canzone, composta da Grace Slick nel 1967,è un capolavoro della musica rock,un crescendo irresistibile che si interrompe in modo inatteso e sorprendente.E'contenuta nel secondo LP dei Jefferson Airplane, il primo con la Slick come cantante, Surrealistic Pillow, ed è anche uno dei brani interpretati, in modo molto diretto ed efficace, nella performance dei Jefferson al concerto di Woodstock del 1969.

Evidente la metafora e la analogia proposta tra le esperienze lisergiche della California degli anni '60, funghi allucinogeni inclusi, ed i celebri romanzi di Lewis Carroll dedicati al mondo fantastico - e vagamente inquietante - della piccola Alice ("Alice nel paese delle meraviglie")
