Following Lane Kiffin's announcement that he was stepping down as head coach of the University of Tennessee Volunteers, rumors started flying that students were rioting on campus, police were using tear gas and the torchbearer was in danger of being torn down. Only a few of these were true.
Large crowds of upset students did gather and shout things. There were a couple of mattresses and a pile of shirts that were set on fire. However, no tear gas was necessary and when students attempted to storm Neyland Stadium in order to charge the field, one lone UTPD officer held them at bay.

Ha I had been down at WUTK the Radio Station and drove by the Big Rock at the Coliseum. I noticed they were filming them painting it. It was right after Kiffin said he was gone, I hadn't heard yet. Wondered why they were filming the Rock getting painted.
