  • @beramod5185 there is no best in those three concerti. each one of them is beautiful in its own way. the forth one, well, that's different :)

  • So wonderful. 2nd is my favourite (for now).

  • wow totally agreed

srsly i thought at first 3rd was the best like all other ppl

but as I listend to all the concertos like 30 times over and over again

i think 1st is truly the best one..

    2nd mov is just astounding..

  • I haven't personally seen the score of the original movement but, according to Rachmaninoff, he practically redid the orchestration from scratch. I certainly don't think that the idea that he "did not show his full potential of the sound from his orchestration" due to youth, holds any credence.

  • "It has virtually nothing in common with the version he wrote when he was young."

False. This movement (#2) was little changed from the original 1891 version. (The most changed was movement #3.) I have heard both versions and the later changes he made were mostly to cut out unnecessary passages where he imitated the Grieg Concerto, and to make the music (for example the cadenza) even more brilliant and exciting. Rach wrote a friend the new version "retains all tlhe freshness of youth."

  • Except for the fact that is has virtually nothing in common with the version he wrote when he was young. He was far older when he revised this piece than when he wrote the 2nd and 3rd concertos.

It actually represents a rather old, melancholy artist.

  • Yes,indeed..what a pity that this wonder isn't performed so often!

I have played it,all the piano part, and I inmediately felt in love with it.

Thanks for posting this unbelievable version!

  • es tan hermoso como los siguientes, yo quiero tocar el 2

  • There's a debate about whether this is the finest Op. 1. Pretty damn good. Berg's piano sonata is also outstanding.

  • I do believe this is not the best, compare to No.2 or No.3, it sounded quite young..

seemed Rachmaninoff did not show his full potential of the sound from his orchestration, how he interweaving the sound from piano and orchestra..

    However,

    Out of 4 Rachmaninoff concerto...

    No.1 is my favorite..

    because of this movement...

touches me very much every time I listen to..

    a young sensitive melancholy artist

  • such an unbelivable concerto...a wonder it is performed so less often than the 2nd and 3rd.
