2003 saw Lightning (from Robot Wars) converted into Thunder for Techno Games. This was our first match and it was one of the most exciting of them all. Who would win? It was close and went into extra time. Bear in mind Thunder was having big control issues at the time with changeable control due to damaged motor magnets - Laurie Calvert (driver). • did anyone notice tin tackler is steel avenger?

  • @tazzmaniandevilboy42 Yep, and it's team mate Thunder is Lightning from RW. Also Bugs Buggy was Hydra and the other one was Mighty Mouse in RW.

  • nice driving for the first goal laurie!congrats

  • @TheRoboteer Cheers. The robot had one motor more powerful then the other, so it was tricky to drive.

  • @Calvertfilm Incidentally I was really fighting for control in this video. Thunder was a nightmare to control due to one motor having much more power. If the adjustments were made for good forward control, it meant in reverse the power difference was accentuated and the robot spun, so I was constantly correcting the controls and driving with precise control when it mattered, timing it as good as I could for the final goal. Hard work! You really need a bot to be perfect and it was in series 7.

  • @TheLegacyofHitchcock For TG the weapons system came out, hence the lower weight. It was as you say different bodywork completely. Between RW Extreme and S7 we converted from 2 to 1 flipper, so it had the power to sefl-right. Also we had a magnet slipped in a motor for RWE and TG, so the robot was hard to control and spun in reverse. In series 7 (fixed) it was perfect. We also went from servos to (Chaos 2)electronics for the speed con. We could have done more for S8 but the show finished :-(

  • So what upgrades did you do to Lightning between this series and Robot Wars 7 aside from putting the flipper back on? (89.5 kgs here, 96 kgs in Robot Wars, from what ive seen from other machines, that is quite a lot of room for upgrades- look at Storm 2). One thing ive noticed is that Thunder/Lightning seems to be armoured in checker plate aluminium here, while in series 7 of Robot Wars the armour looked a lot more sleek, smooth and stronger.

  • @mrfallout261 Yes indeed.

  • Isnt bugs buggy hydra or something xD
