As the 21st Century begins, we face not one great national and global threat, but many. Religious and ethnic violence, climate change, dwindling resources, economic turbulence and poverty and disease among the world's most vulnerable threaten our wellbeing and our very existence.

Roundtable Panelists: Historian David Kennedy, professor emeritus, Kavita Ramdas, CEO Global Fund for Women, U.S. Rep. • Stanford is pumping $114 million dollars into next year's financial aid programs.

For students whose families earn less than $60,000 a year, the university will pay for tuition + room and board. Next fall that's more than $47,000.

For students whose families earn less than $100,000, the university will waive tuition costs. The savings: $36,000 a year.

Even for students whose parents earn more than $100,000, financial aid will reduce costs by an average of 16%.

  • Not all the plans require printing more money. One thing they HAVE to do to get us out of debt is bring the manufacturing jobs back here or America needs to somehow figure out how to become more self-reliant and not buy evrything out of country. Thats where the capital has to come from

  • I was quite dissappointed in the wording Tom Brokaw chose in a question to the President of Stanford regarding the current generation at college. Big dissappointment in Brokaw's misinformed attitude toward young people and further in the projeciton onto the public of that negative attitude. Poor journalisitc leadership in todays' world and times.

  • superb! nice video...

  • Now, who would listen to Moloch? The university is now a techno-bureaucratic corporation. What possible movements for change can we expect to occur there? None whatsoever. The people who are sadly conscripted by their parents or who, even worse, work hard or volunteer to do a PhD at Stanford are going to get brainwashed into thinking of serving the rich, including the development agencies like USAID that takes 90cents to every dollar donated. read 'the ruins of the university' by bill readings

  • We face a another Dark age, or perhaps another extinction event like that since the dinosaurs. I don't take anything for granted and I know that history can and usually repeats itself.

  • great talk
