The theme of Atlas Shrugged, as Rand described it, is "the role of man's mind in existence". The book explores a number of philosophical themes that Rand would subsequently develop into the philosophy of Objectivism. It advocates the core tenets of Rand's philosophy of Objectivism and expresses her concept of human achievement. In doing so it expresses many facets of Rand's philosophy, such as the advocacy of reason, individualism, the market economy and the failure of government coercion.
Ayn Rand born Alisa Zinov'yevna Rosenbaum, February 2 1905 -- March 6, 1982), was a Russian-American novelist, philosopher, playwright, and screenwriter. She is known for her two best-selling novels and for developing a philosophical system she called Objectivism. Born and educated in Russia, Rand migrated to the United States in 1926. She worked as a screenwriter in Hollywood and had a play produced on Broadway in 1935--1936. She first achieved fame with her 1943 novel The Fountainhead. Over a decade later, she published her magnum opus, the philosophical novel Atlas Shrugged, in 1957.
Rand's political views, reflected in both her fiction and nonfiction work, emphasize individual rights (including property rights) and laissez-faire capitalism, enforced by a constitutionally limited government. She was a fierce opponent of all forms of collectivism and statism, including fascism, communism, socialism, and the welfare state, and promoted ethical egoism while rejecting the ethic of altruism. She considered reason to be the only means of acquiring knowledge and its advocacy the most important aspect of her philosophy, stating, "I am not primarily an advocate of capitalism, but of egoism; and I am not primarily an advocate of egoism, but of reason. If one recognizes the supremacy of reason and applies it consistently, all the rest follows."

Truly, this Universe is perfectly balanced, for no Man may be smaller than his money.
The moochers nowadays are out in force, but no matter, it will end as it always has - with them either being shipped off to some Great war, or hunted down locally like the Free Shit Army rank & file that they are.
During the Great Depression, at least they had the dignity and humility to stand in line for a piece of bread, since their intelligence couldn't afford them anything else.

You're on a thought train to nowhere. All of the manufacturing base is in China precisely because the producers went Galt. There are at least 49 mln moochers on foodstamps in the United States.
Money is always present, even uniquely-shaped sticks of birch trees can become money. The issue here is trade: value for value exchange - what that value is would be determined by individual traders and the market as a whole.
Anything else is superficial, even the fractional reserve banking system.

man is at least equally as cooperative as he is competitive this nonsense of selfish man fails scientific testing.it is ignorant of what money is and how it is created. it is dismissive of owners who need not work at all and only seek rent and exploitation. this sort of psychotic selfishness is evil it is the real force of deprivation waste and inequality. natural resources are commons. ownership of them is enforced evil which creates scarcity. efficiency needs to be real not cheap.

fail what exactly ? to be a selfish prick - to not see the inefficiency the waste and the inadequacy of the monetary market system? to not see that pollution and environmental destruction and resource depletion are not external to economics. to see that scaricity is contrived and enforced by the market, fail? yes brother i fail miserably - i see the truth - the market is control - the market is denial - the market is waste - the market cares not about the"externalities" .
