women... they have to talk even during a sword fight

I'm an Advanced Actor Combatant with the SAFD, and a stage combat test is not intended to look all that real. There are a gazillion required techniques to show mastery of each move, so naturally realism takes a back seat to that. Plus, stage fights must be simple enough and safe enough for a minimally-trained actor to repeat for 8 shows a week. It won't ever look like a real fight because it has to tell a coherent story and serve the plot.

@acerb45666555 Not many actors in live-action plays wear fencing masks-- unless they're portraying fencers, not duellists.

@KingLies : It's a class at school! Advanced rapier & dagger.

@francobini 'In a sword fight, you take what you can get,' said someone else here. Besides a rapier is commonly sharpened along at least the end third or so. It will slash when you need it to. Consider how likely an opponent can continue to fight at his best with a 12-inch-long gash in his leg, muscle laid open and blood everywhere. No; he's not dead (yet); but he's easier to defeat now.

This is very cool! What is the text? --what was the assignment?

@0marqste Film fighting is performed at a much faster "speed". In stage combat, it is never performed at full speed for a variety of reasons so it always looks even slower in film.

@blobbinz1 In a sword fight, you take what you can get. Besides, this is for a play not the field.
-
@marysiak What ever the play was, you ladies did an excellent job in the choreography. I sincerely enjoyed the scene. Well done!
