You may not have been the very best Dessie but like your trainers' other hero Persian Punch, you captured our hearts with qualities that are so evidently missing from the human race nowadays COURAGE, CHARACTER & CHARISMA.
Will always miss you & never forget those jumps from outside the wings of thsoe fences & those amazing weight carrying performances where you defied the odds...incomparable.

winnings were irrelevant. I backed against Dessie just twice (as I felt it was impossible to give the huge amounts of weight away) & yet when he beat my horse I backed I still cheered him on. I loved him so much especially at a crap time of my life when I wanted to give up. He was an inspiration

Not a fan of horse racing but I can watch the Cheltenham Gold Cup race over and over and it still gets me going (and moves me) when Dessie starts pulling back the lead on the heavy going ground. A true Hero f a Horse. Great video.

@cockneymark 2006 you robot

All ageing people I have met and have asked about this horse have all gave the best response you can heard about most loving animal/racehorse on the planet. R.I.P Dessert Orchid. I first seen this horse on a documentary TVstation.

brought tears to my eyes. what a lovely animal. loved that horse. thanks for that

the song is called ' no surprises' by radiohead.

@marsvltor2 Who gives a flying fuck? His beating of Panto Prince in the Victor Chandler, giving away 22lb over an inadequate 2 miles was simply extraordinary. No horse since has been tested in such a way. The fact that he could then go on and win the Gold Cup in desperate ground going left handed sealed his immortality for me

The real & true KING OF KEMPTON who provided the White Christmas we all really wanted. Dessie beat top class horses not handicappers.
RIP Dessie you will always be my number 1.

Aw! This video is so good but so sad. It seems like he left yesterday! = (

@marsvltor2 You can never compare ratings by bigots in suits who do not take courage into consideration. Arkle was great but seriously, can any idiot seriously think he would have given Desert Orchid 25lb at Sandown or Kempton????

I met him when he did a guest appearance at the opening of my vet's new premises in Yorkshire the summer of 2006, he looked fantastic and loved all the attention and admiration.
(A little late, sorry)
Dessie, now it's been a year. It seems like an age agio that we all heard the awful news. This is my final goodbye. May your spirit rest in peace forever. Thank you for being such an amazing and inspirational horse. You will always be remembered. Thank you, and goodbye.... -__-
