@JIMY45GR Once the Americans had started landing at Morocco, Yes.. But not before. In the time before the Yanks became involved in NA, It was any ones battle, Just depended on who diverted the most resources there, Had the Germans put more resources into that front, Victory would have been assured. Oh and it wasn't the German style of victories everywhere.. That was the Hitler style, He made one right call during Moscow 1941 and became a "God" in his own image..

@MrVonnoobie romels tactics ar e used today in war academies.... this is one thing and the result is another..like i already posted, he should draw off africa when fuell were not enough so he could save men and tanks for europe... the same mistake germans did in rusia front.. after stallingrand... retreating is not loosing but a tactic so they could stabulize the front in europe.. this was german style they wanted victories everywhere,,, n

@JIMY45GR Rommel was a Great general, But only when commanding Corp's size armies, He had the basic understanding on what he needed to do with the units when he was in command of Army Group B, Was largely due to other General's and politics that he was not allowed to use them as he liked. And really, He did amazing work with what he had, Considering he got less supplies then Any other General... And even then wasn't uncommon to lose half of that on it's way over the Med to him.

@2004DAZZA "hey Gretchen, this thing wont wipe itself" lol (Beau Ryan at his best). Yeah need to look at league players for real men lol
-
@OzisGodscountry They were a tougher breed back then. The only thing modern AFL players don't get done for them is their 'bums wiped'!

@2004DAZZA Its amazing anyone could kick a footy after Kokoda let alone play and win a GF.
-
@OzisGodscountry Yep! the Kokoda trail was certainly tough terrain, not to mention snakes, insects and the constant threat of Malaria.
I'm from South Australia, check out the name Bob Quinn. A famous Port Adelaide footballer twice decorated for bravery and seriously wounded in action. He fought in the African Desert as well as New Guinea. He is in the AFL Hall of Fame. He won the Magarey Medal in 1939 & After the war returned & won it again. An amazing and courageous man.

@2004DAZZA Certainly not,the US fought and won some great battles in the Pacific (Coral Sea,Peleliu,Guadalcanal etc) but like Peleliu Kokoda was a different ballgame due to the terrain. At Kokoda the Japs were the best troops they had, expertly trained in jungle warfare,we had farmers and lawyers from Hawthorn and Kew lol.The impact from the loss to Japan was the turning point in the war in the pacific and the defeat of Rommel at Tobruk was the turning point in Africa
-
@OzisGodscountry Australia's geographical position is vital because whoever controls it has a strategic advantage. We can't deny US involvement in the Pacific wasn't decisive though. Kokoda was significant because by that stage of the war Japanese forces were spread very thin. After the Aussies had repulsed them they realized they would need to devote massive resources if any invasion were to succeed. And after the battle of Midway the Japanese simply didn't have the resources to be successful.
-
@2004DAZZA yeah come in after the majority of the enemies forces have been depleted then claim the victory lol.The way I look at it is if the Aussies hadnt stopped the Japs at Kokoda then Australia would have been attacked and to be honest our homeland defence wouldnt have withstood.US would have lost a major link to the Pacific Theater and Pearl arbour would have been smashed then taken. Then who knows as it would have been the link needed for the Japanese.
Rommel u r the man ...I salute you'

great generals need luck and fuel also sufficient amunition and supply... comparing rommel with other generals through the centuries i would say that he was limiited.. hsi star was short with or without fuel support.. ist simple to understand that teh territory you fight must be always open and friendly and that can not last if you face other big armies stubborn to defeat you..
