This video was taken at halftime of the October 7, 2006 Illinois homecoming game. It would be Chief Illiniwek's last homecoming game. The Fighting Illini (still the team nickname by the way) lost to Indiana on this day 32-34.
Does anyone really believe that UI cares what you think about the Chief that was made up by a band director to entertain people at halftime so they would stop leaving early? The highest paid employees are the football and basketball coaches, just shut up and buy tickets to see their crap teams so they can stay rich.
@hookerdreamz Dumb shit like your lack of ability to use the English language? Our history is of killing the Native Americans, so besides dressing "Chief Illiniwek" as a Sioux in honor of the University of North Dakota since 1926, we then hold a non-white person as the hero of a majority (overwhelmingly) White university?? And what fine country are you from Ma'am?
@IlliniDVargo Honoring a "Foreign Culture"?? The discussion here is about American Indians Sir, I think you missed something during your trip through I'm not racist land.
@chicagogal09 Too bad they dressed him as a Sioux Indian, Looks like the University of North Dakota has played a cruel joke on U of I since 1926. Do you know other Universities banned the "Chief" performance because they found it embarrasing? Why don't you dress up a White kid in Blackface to honor African Americans? Because your coward racist ass knows what would happen. How many people at U of I games are other than White? Only the talented ones that are actually playing. HAHAHAHA..
@CEShannVfB Yes, that is true, but the Illiniwek Tribe has been non-existent for over 100 years. The University had no way of honoring their traditions 100%. The traditions were learned through other tribes, who had an understanding or similar traditions to those of the Illiniwek. Had you been knowledgeable you would have known that. It's annoying listening to people being overly sensitive about this issue. There's nothing wrong with honoring a foreign culture.
Um for one morons, the reason why our Chief WAS THE CHIEF is because of Illinois' history. Because of the Illiniwek Tribe ...He represented our past and our history, something that we are damn proud of. And yet we got morons like yall and the Chief haters who wanna stomp all over it. If this damn world wouldnt get so damn offended over the smallest and dumbest shit maybe it would be a better place. Bitch n whine about important shit. K thanx.
@chicagogal09 A proud symbol? You took an Illiniwek indian and dressed him up like a goddamn Sioux. How are you honoring them? At least Florida State puts forth the time and effort to put an accurate portrayal on the field.
