The builder of 40 Reynal wrongly thinks that yanking out a bridge down by the border of their property will ease the lot's flooding problem. The border is near the chain link fence that shows up at the bottom of the screen. This is because they seem to finally realize that they made a bad purchase of a lot that floods. The lot really floods from having a high water table and the upstream retention wall breeching during storms. The local Planning Board is being led to believe that the smart thing to do is to yank out the downstream bridge. It won't help. They are trying to also say they want to take out the bridge because it collects silt and debris, but the municipality should stop it's rampant allowance of dirt going down storm drains and garbage floating out of their landfill. Overdevelopment and adding new storm drains to benefit developers is also causing the excessive flooding. They should not allow houses to be built so close to flood plains as they are allowing. They also should consider treating the bridge as a convenient place to clear debris instead of a knee-jerk reaction of removing it, which in effect treats the Town of Mamaroneck and the Long Island Sound as a convenient garbage can. When the removal doesn't work, will they put the bridge back?
I don't think removing the bridge will ease the problem. It is possible that by digging under the bridge and making the area under it deeper, it will allow any thing coming down the river to pass under and not be held by the bridge. It is part of the area scenery and would be too bad to remove it.
