A further explanation of Darlin' Cora (see part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xl-niqQbNc ).

Another right hand figure which I didn't film that's useful: thumb on an inside string, thumb on the 5th, index on the first - bum ditty.

Listening again after making the video to what he's doing while singing, I think he's playing simpler figures rather than the whole melody. Anyway, have a listen for yourself!

Tuning: eCGCC
Fingerings:
4th String (low string) - 0, 4, 5
3rd - 0, 3 (occasional blue note), 4
2nd - 0, 4
1st - 0

  • Keep that two finger stuff alive...I posted mine just recently before I saw yours here. Very interesting similarities. Only goes to shoe that there isn't much new to playig the banjo that hasent already been tried...I was not familiar with the man you mentioned..Take a look at my posting of Cora...And man, that banjo sounds great!!

  • @RusnakBanjo Thanks Don. Great videos you've got up, I really like your playing.

There's a recording of Shelton here on Youtube, but I can't put the address here. If you search for "Shelton Darlin' Cora" you should find it. Great picking and singing!

  • That's a great demonstration of two finger thumb lead. I wasn't expecting the first string to be used as a drone.

The first and second string are tuned in unison on this tune?

  • @Hikikomori013 Yeah, it's like double-C but with the first string tuned to match the 2nd.

Thanks. You make it look like a lot of fun, so I've been tinkering with thumb lead in my free time today. I like the sound, so I think I'll make it part of my skill set.

  • @Hikikomori013 It's a great sound, enjoy!

  • Good, glad it helped! Nice to know that angles works too, thanks.

  • @HunterRobertson

I can really see and understand what's happening from this camera viewpoint (Darling Cora pt 2). Thanks for the instruction. Best regards - Pinenut

  • Cool I have a old Dean Banjo

  • That's a Harmony Reso-Tone, cheap banjo from the '50s/'60s.
