@alejoeisabel I would like to think that Dudamel could, but would he want to? The 12th is one overblown film score. I do not wish for my statement to sound pejorative, but I don't think the L. A. audience would take to the work because they would look at in a 'filmic' sense. Too bad that.

@gitaclick Because education and culture is private in nature in the Capitalist world. The Capitalists are only interested in education to produce skilled workers, and now they are no longer interested in education because they can import skilled and profissonal workers from third world.

@padredemishijos12 why is the classical music so expensive?!?! I mean, not music but those idiotic teachers. Why are they so expensive in the West and in Venezuela they're not? And in the end this is what you get - 'poor' kids must teach the rest of the world the long forgotten joy of making music and putting feelings in musicianship. Was it that Franz Liszt the genius taught so many pupils for free?

@MrB4 You don't get it. The LA Phil are music aristocrats, a $300,000 in music lessons through ther lifetime, compared to the Teresa Carreno Youth Orechestra who are overwhelmingly from poor families. Shosti 12 is about the overthrow of the Russian Monarchy. The LA Phil is an aristocratic orchestra. Neishapour is entirely correct when he talks about history.

Don't you think you're being a bit dramatic? I am more than certain the LA Philharmonic can do this piece "justice" much more than the "'Teresa Carreno' Youth Orchestra of Venezuala". I'm not bashing the Youth Orchestra, I just think that if anyone were to know the history culture of Shostakovich etc. etc. it'd be the people who have attended college for god knows how long studying music.
Nevertheless, the Youth Orch does a great job! The trombone could tune his C's though, haha

Bravo!
The question is whether the LA Philharmonic can play as well as the "Teresa Carreno" Youth Orchestra of Venezuela? To do justice to this masterpiece musicians must know the Russian history, culture, the true Shostakovich, etc. Shostakovich was much like Beethoven. He was a humanist and always sided with those who did not have the power to defend themselves. He did not like those who oppressed and bullied others. Under Dudamel's direction most, if not all, of those attributes come to surface...

Will the LA Philharmonic have the guts to perform this piece? Does Dudamel have the cojones to push this through?
