I think that when you import look at the folder in the layer's panel you should see a triangle next to the folder. Click that and it should expand the folder so you can see the layers.

I had a svg file with two pieces. I followed your video exactly, but somehow when I imported the svg to scal, the layers were not there. There was a layer but it included both pieces in one box. Am I doing something wrong?
