Clarkson and May chat with a Lancia MonteCarlo owner about his car and the Monte next to it which has a supercharged Alfa V6 in it. Check out the guy in the deck chair who was sitting eating his picnic minding his own business 'till the TG crew gathered round him. The giggles from behind me are (I think) because "deck chair man" just carries on munching on his food while all this madness is going on around him.

  • @ xboxquad, according to the DVLA website, your old Lancia is currently taxed 'till 01/10/2010, so it must still be alive!!!

  • you dont know true italian classics even if they hit you in your face

  • Looked good but that's where the positives end. A truly woeful car to own & drive. I owned one circa 1986 & it was the worst car I ever owned.

  • With few touchs:

a pair of twin carbs, camshafts and a brakes kit by Tarox added and a Montecarlo become a fantastic CAR today

  • The Montecarlo isn't a true Italian classic. It was a failure & even Lancia admitted that by withdrawing the model & then killing it off early. Face facts, it looked great but it was a slow, badly made car.

  • The 037 isn't a Montecarlo, that's why it hasn't been mentioned.

  • Incorrect. The build quality was shocking from the off. The metal was cheap & the electrics were typically Italian (ie abysmal). The handling in the wet was lethal (as road tests of the day proved & why Lancia withdrew it mid-run). Looked great but that's where the good news ends

  • Maintained properly and not treated badly these can be spot on little cars. You can't really do over a 100mph with out losing your license anyway so who needs anything quicker than this that cruises at 80-100 all day? I'd know ive got one.

  • The 037 was nothing like the road car. It was a specially developed rally car that just happened to use ( a very modified) Montecarlo body.
