The carousel scene from the 1976 film »Logan's Run«.

Sometime in the 23rd century, the remnants of human civilization live in a sealed domed city, a utopia run by a computer that takes care of all aspects of their life, including reproduction. The citizens live a mostly hedonistic lifestyle but have been told that in order to maintain the city, every resident must undergo the ritual of »Carrousel« [sic] at the age of 30, where they are vaporized but with the promise of being »Renewed«. To track this, the humans are implanted at birth with a Lifeclock crystal in the palm of their hand that changes colors as they approach their »Last Day«. To maintain order, the computer has assigned several humans as Sandmen (policemen), who chase after and terminate Runners (those that try to leave the city in order to escape Carrousel).

Oh, you scared Americans and your dislike for caring for each other beyond singing an anthem together.

Only the dead can know peace from that synthesizer music.

Today one of my coworkers told me that another coworker turns 30 today. I said "She must now face the firey ritual of carrosel!" in a dark tone. To which my coworker gave me this amazing blank stare.

I feel entirely too old sometimes.

The government does dont fear our guns. They have nuclear warheads. Deadly chemical and biological weapons. Helicopters,Tanks, stealth bombers with smart bombs. Bunkers and shelters with stoers of food for hundreds for years. If you think our guns keep the government in line your just fooling yourself. It is our government that gives us that right to bare arms. They can take that right away anytime they wish. They have nothing to fear from people owning guns. They don't fear us one bit.

No silly man, that is nothing remotely close to what Fresco's ideas are about. I will admit though, that dome did remind me of his models I've seen.

This scene weirded me out when I saw it. Never able to figure why they didn't just have a private ceremony / ritual.

SO no one can see their terror, nor can they see each others' fear.

    It's simple.

Anyone that becomes old enough will gain some wisdom, and a few individuals could form cadres to change the BANKER system.

    Solution?

KILL EVERYONE AT AGE 30, that is not already a banker.

Very odd scene. I guess I'd have to read the book to get a background on Carrousel to know just what this is all about....
