AMEN to that one!
The original Japanese version of Varan honorably graces my DVD collection, and I love the flight scenes where he takes off and decides to fly to town.
Varan was never in a lot of movies, other than Destroy All Monsters for all of about 10 seconds. He got robbed of movie and screen time!

One of the examples of nuclear mutants are the crabs from Attack of the Crab Monsters. Don't compare/confuse them with Ebirah. And so far so good, Varan the Unbelievable were worse than the original Japanese version. Varan was referred as Obaki on the original version (Daikaiju Baran).
