@SamuelDMorgan Yes I agree that the current way the welfare systems are set up are WAY off base and need a massive restructuring, including not taking away any money they make from their welfare check, so they can actually afford to get out of debt and off of welfare. But at the same time, you don't need corporations to be able to give people jobs or change the way the system works - small businesses and local stores also give people fair living wages without having to be a major big box corp.
@Rhiannon22 You do bring up a few valid points. I agree that a large portion of our military spending is mismanaged and I agree that there is a problem with our system. Welfare is not the answer. Once someone is on welfare, they are afraid to move up in the world for fear of losing it. In other words, welfare doesn't reward people for getting a slightly better job, rather it does the opposite. The real way to help the poor is to give them more jobs to chose from. That's why we need corporations.
@SamuelDMorgan - Occupy isn't calling for the money of the 1%, they're calling for a massive restructuring of the way that the world is run. So the welfare programs would obviously be reviewed, proactive changes made, and it could be fixed so that it actually operates in a manner that will allow for the systems to work without this 'bankrupting the nation' issue you bring up. However I'd like to point out the massive spending on military and other programs, without balance in the social programs
Who's going to pay for all these benefits that the people are expecting? If the government confiscated ALL of the so called "1%'s" money, it wouldn't even come close to funding our current welfare programs which are rapidly bankrupting the nation.
Okay. To those who support this movement, and this vid, exactly how does this protest expect to accomplish the desires expressed in the video? Not being facetious, asking honestly. Please explain, because, truthfully, it makes absolutely no sense to me.
All I hear is.."I'll be able to have.." or "my such and such".....me, me , me... And so it goes on, all these people are simply concerned with what they will get, what they will be able to achieve.I hear no mention of the people, of all people, those in poverty, those oppressed far greater than those that are speaking. I hear nothing about freedom and justice for ALL people, all i hear is individuals stating what they themselves will benefit from. This should be about ALL people not just "me"..
@Rhiannon22 All valid points, but what happens when a small business becomes a large corporation?

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.
