    To be honest, very few people need to know about conic sections for their day-to-day life. They are really useful if you're studying planetary motion or trying to send a probe to jupiter. They are also interesting in and of themselves.

    If I were in charge of the school system, I would cover statistics in more depth instead of conic sections. Much more useful.

    Good for programing ellipses circles, parabolas, and hyperbolas. But then again,I'm shure that all modern programing programs already have those integrated in a easy method.
