Guitar cover of "The Hardest Button to Button" by The White Stripes from their album Elephant

I love Jack White's tone and overall sound. On this song I'm using using virtual overdrive and chorus pedals with a sixties basic blues amp setting.

The White Stripes were an American alternative rock duo, formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The group consisted of the songwriter Jack White (vocals, guitar, and keyboards) and drummer Meg White (drums and occasional vocals). Jack and Meg White were previously married to each other, but are now divorced. After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit music scene, the White Stripes rose to prominence in 2002, as part of the garage rock revival scene. Their successful albums White Blood Cells and Elephant drew them attention from a large variety of media outlets in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The White Stripes used a low-fidelity, do-it-yourself approach to writing and recording. Their music featured a melding of punk rock and blues influences and a raw simplicity of composition, arrangement, and performance. The duo was also noted for their fashion and design aesthetic which featured a simple color scheme of red, white, and black. The band's discography consists of six studio albums, one live album, two extended plays (EP), one concert film, one tour documentary, twenty-six singles, and fourteen music videos. Their last three albums each won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. After a long hiatus, The White Stripes formally announced their split on February 2, 2011.

"The Hardest Button to Button" was the third single from their album Elephant. The cover of the single is an allusion to the graphics of Saul Bass, seen in the movie posters and title sequences of films such as Anatomy of a Murder and The Man with the Golden Arm. Jack White says that the song is about a child trying to find his place in a dysfunctional family when a new baby comes. (Wikipedia, 2011)

I’ll check out the videos when I return home in mid-March. I’m currently on vacation and the only internet access I have is via satellite link which won’t accommodate streaming videos - Ron

  • Too much overdrive and wrong pick-ups for their music if you ask me =)

  • @Sunchild333

You may be right. Tone is very subjective and perceptions can vary dramatically from one person to another. To my ear, I was pretty happy with the tone I got on this one. Thanks for viewing and the feedback - Ron

  • Easy song but sexy guitar man

Yeah, it's interesting that even though he is an awesome guitarist, Jack White often opts for simple song structures. Maybe he's on to something :) Thanks for viewing and commenting - Ron

In my experience there is little correlation between song complexity and views. Some of my covers, which took weeks to produce, attracted virtually no views while some that were banged out in minutes have done very well. There seem to be many different factors, many beyond our control, which determine video performance - Ron

  • @iamRottenRon Of course the tone was still very good but it's missing that bright bridge sound from an old stratocaster let's say. I'm only commenting this because you mentioned you liked their tone...not to annoy you or anything. But also...Buying a guitar and other equipement just to copy the sound from a different band as some people do, would be stupid =P

Thanks a lot for viewing and commenting. The guitar is a Godin and this model (Detour) would be considered an entry level guitar. All the best - Ron
