This video uses music and rap to teach how to find the slope of a line from either a graph or a table. This is a kinesthetic presentation with a five step chorus. Also the concept of a vertical line with an undefined slope is introduced as well as that a horizontal line has a slope of zero. Key words in English that signify slope such as per, for every, each, for each, and apiece are also introduced. The presentation is included in the DVD Power of Algebra which can be ordered at the web site above, www.gdawgenterprises.com.

  • "If all the slopes are equal, you've proved you have a line." Technically not true.

  • @joddem If I calculate each slope between each pair of points in a table and get the same number for that calculation no matter which two points I evaluate, how can those points not be part of a line? I'm not defending my video, but trying to learn something new from you, a viewer who cares enough to comment. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

  • @gdawgrapper Well consider what would happen if you have a sine wave and your table accidentally only includes the wave's maxima. All the slopes between each pair of points you select would be equal, but you would have a sinusoidal function, not a line.

  • @joddem I see your point. If we know that these points are a sampling of a continuous relation, then it could happen as the example you gave and therefore not prove a line. if, on the other hand, the points that you use are what defines the relation, a line is the only thing it could be. Thank you for taking the time to point out my logical lapse.

  • i dont remember that i have post a suless comment.actually i dont sign out when shutting dowm my computer so the comm ent is not mines ok it can be my cousins.and tell me what was the comment please??????????

  • A word that rhymes with "muck." If you don't sign off, your cousin or anyone at your computer can represent himself as you. That's especially important to think of if you use something like facebook.

  • I'm sorry I'm going to have to remove your comment. I'm a public schoolteacher and cannot afford to condone such language. If you wish to make another, less profane comment on the video, please do so.
