This landing was at the end of a 15.3 hour ferry flight from Monterey, California to Honolulu, Hawaii.

The SR20 G3 averaged a groundspeed of 140 knots over the whole trip and consumed about 158 gallons of fuel.

Also, if you want to read the detailed version (I did have some engine trouble), then I posted a 3 part series:

  • great video! What was the average altitude over the pacific?

  • @jakecucaracha Thanks! I flew at 6,000 feet the whole way. At 800 pounds over gross, that's about all my SR20 would give me.

It took about 12 hours to burn the fuel back down under max gross and another 3 1/2 hours after that to get to Hawaii. I probably could have taken it a little higher after 10 hours or so, but the winds were working for me down there so I just stuck with it.

  • @theflightacademy Wow that's awesome! What was your plan in case of an emergency such as engine failure?

I'm currently a student pilot and love Hawaii (I have family there, so I've spent a fair amount of time on Kauai), and this flight sounds incredible to me. Were you moving to Hawaii, or just relocating aircraft? Or just for fun?

  • @jakecucaracha Well, I had a raft and a vest so the plan was to get all my stuff together as best I could, pull the chute, and then bail before the ship sank. I had a sat phone in a waterproof case so that would have come with me too.

As for why I went: we're mostly a flight instruction biz but we've been getting more and more into ferry flights in the last year. We just got our 8th over to Australia yesterday with another going next month. This plane was going to a new owner in HI.

  • @jakecucaracha If you'd like to read the really detailed version, I posted a 3 part series about this flight in my blog. I wasn't able to put the links into the comments for some reason (I think YouTube doesn't like it), so I edited the video description to include them.

Good luke on the private license and safe flying!
